CHILDREN’S EDUCATION:

____B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading)-Assist 1st and 2nd graders with math and/or reading (1 hour - once per week)

 

____Book Fair- Is open to students, parents and teachers. Assist on set up day and sale days, (day and/or evening, fall or spring, 2-3 hour shifts)

 

____ Birthday Book Club – Assist in coordinating gift book donations to the Resource Center by parents to commemorate children’s birthdays.

 

Cultural Arts- Provides and plans assemblies, workshops, and special programs to the students at Marion Jordan.

____Assist with Set-up/monitoring of Assemblies (1 day/various dates during the school year)

 

____ Environmental Awareness Assist with waste-free lunch and other programs that inform/educate students and parents on environmental issues.  They also head up our school beautification projects.

 

____Health & Safety - Assist with school vision and hearing screening, District 15 blood drive, coat closets and increasing health and safety awareness in our students. 

 

____Kids Helping Kids- Our service-oriented committee champions projects which help our MJ students raise money for a variety of non-profit groups.

 

KinderKaper- Coordinates KinderGym, the physical education program for kindergarten children, and the Kindergarten social.

____Help in P.E. Kindergarten classes 1-2 times/month from

        October through March

____Assist with the Kindergarten social on August 24

 

Mini Courses- Offers students creative and educational “workshops” (led by volunteer parents) as an alternative to outside recess during the winter months.

____Lead Students in Planned Activity (1 time/ 1hr Jan-March during lunch hour)

 

____ Reflections - Coordinates MJ student participation in the National PTA-themed contest to encourage students in music, language arts, photography, and fine arts.

 

____Resource Center- Coordinates volunteers for the Resource Center. Weekly or Biweekly – Flexible Hours

 

____S.P.A.R.K. (Special Education Parents Accessing Resources & Knowledge) provides a means of educating parents, providing resources and networking opportunities for families whose children learn differently or have special needs.

 

Young Authors - Provides an opportunity for all students to create and publish their own books.

____Assist students with their books 1 time per week

____Assist students with their books 1-2 times per month

 

 

THE MJ COMMUNITY:

____ Bilingual Liaison - Facilitates communication between the MJPTA and our Spanish-speaking families.

 

Dads’ Committee- Hosts the Pancake Breakfast, Moms and Muffins, as well as Gym Jamz Nights.

____ Directory – Assist with the compiling/publishing of the school directory of names, addresses, and phone numbers, which is distributed to PTA member families in the fall.

 

Family Events-- Promotes family and faculty involvement by sponsoring non-fundraising family gatherings such as Fall Fest, Dads & Donuts, and an MJ family nite at the YMCA.

Fun Fair- Promotes family involvement by sponsoring a fair for the entire family held in February that includes games and concessions.

Hospitality- Hosts and serves refreshments at a variety of special occasions and PTA events:

Holiday Store - Provides an opportunity for students to shop for holiday gifts for their families.

____Assist in the store (help students shop, etc.--1-2 hour shift)

 

____Marion Jordan Cares – Coordinates help efforts for school and community members in need.

 

(MJ COMMUNITY CON’T)

____ Membership – Promotes PTA membership among parents and school faculty/staff throughout the school year.

 

____Newsletter- Produces a monthly e-newsletter (Jordanaire) with school calendar and articles from PTA and staff. Help edit  (1-2 days/month)

 

____Parent Education - Promotes parental awareness and education; presents speakers and writes articles on topics of concern to parents.

 

____Room Parent-Coordinates 2 classroom parties (Halloween and Valentine’s Day) and other misc. needs.

 

____ Sixth Grade Committee- Coordinates all special activities commemorating the 6th Grade year including an end-of year activity and class gift. Parents of 6th graders only.

 

____SpiritWear – Help with the sale of MJ-related activewear for the students.

 

____ Welcome Committee- Helps to ease transition of new students and their families into Marion Jordan.

 

Yearbook - Assists photographer on picture day.  Works with MJ student yearbook club and principal to coordinate photos, layout, proofread, and distribute the final printed yearbook.

FUNDRAISING:

____ Ways and Means - Assist with fundraising activities such as Manna, Market Day, Fun Run, etc.

 

____Manna - Our Manna program raises funds for our MJPTA through the sale of gift cards.

 

Market Day A co-op food sale fundraiser.

____Assist unloading truck and packing orders (once per month on Tuesday am for 2 hrs)

 

MISC:

____Back to School - Delivers pre-packaged schools supplies to students’ desks before school begins.
