School Assemblies for 2008-09 School Year**

December 2                            Dr. Exhaustus – Global Warming            

The basics of the greenhouse theory; fossil fuels -- the use of oil and coal as energy sources; new energy technology, such as wind and solar power; green automobile technology; effects of global warming on different climates; creatures threatened by the effects of global warming.

 

January 13                     Jim May – author and storyteller

Mr. May – a former teacher - tells stories, folk tales and myths, many about growing up in rural Illinois. Will also present a segment on the basics of how to put a story together (kick off for Child’s Play submission period)

 

March 31             Underwauder Productions –“Down Under” 

Marine biology; oceanography; SCUBA diving science; Great Barrier Reef.

 

March 31             Deadline for Child’s Play Submissions

 

April 21                         Parker in the Park                                             

Nature/conservation play – teaches about cicadas, bees, erosion, photosynthesis, conserving energy, protecting the environment (Earth Week).                       Grades K – 2.

 

April 23                          Arithmetickles

Interactive math at different levels. (2 assemblies: Grades 3 & 4, and Grades 5 & 6.)

 

May 19                          Child’s Play Performance

Performance of a show that will include 1 – 4 “World Premiere” pieces written by children from Marion Jordan, bookended by a few Child’s Play repertory pieces from children around the world.  (One assembly for the entire school.)                     

 

** We are hoping to also schedule an assembly on the Iditarod and Alaska
