Gifted & Talented Services
|
Grades K-2: Differentiated instruction is provided in
the regular classroom to meet the needs of gifted and talented
students.
Grades 3-8: Approximately five percent of third- through
eighth-grade students are identified for participation in
self-contained gifted classes. These classes provide enrichment
and acceleration in the curriculum throughout the school
day. |
B.E.A.R.
|
B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading) formerly
known as W.I.S.H. - The PTA coordinates reading volunteers for first and second
graders at the teacher's request.
This gives children additional one-on-one reading practice. |
Athletic
|
6th Grade District 15 Track Meets
|
6th graders from district elementary schools do the mile
run in one meet and compete in track and field events in another
meet. |

Students pair up to beat the clock while scoring as many
baskets as possible. MJ winners continue to the district competition.

Teacher/Moderator meets with a group of 50 or so fifth and
sixth grade students on Friday mornings at 7:20a. Read more

C.A.R.E. is an affordable, enriching, and well-supervised
before- and after-school program in which children can learn,
grow, and develop. |

Sixth grade students film and deliver the news to each
classroom once a week.

Junior Great Books
|
Provides opportunities for students to study classic books
to acquire a greater appreciation of literature. Usually offered
during lunch hours, one day a week, for six weeks during the
winter months. |
Mini-Courses
|
Coordinators offer students creative and educational “workshops” (led
by volunteer parents) as an alternative to outside recess during
the winter months. |

|
A national PTA program that encourages creative expression
among children in literature, musical composition, photography,
and visual arts. Students work on the theme outside of school
time and the due date for entries is the week before Thanksgiving.

Fine Arts

Instruments offered: flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet/trumpet,
trombone, and baritone. Percussion, oboe, and French horn may
be offered to beginners per ear-training/rhythm evaluation. |
